There are two questions within the minutes that need a response from each gym.
-
Meeting began with a discussion on how the latest “recommendation” from the governor affects us as youth sports. We will be looking at how the PIAA and NCAA handle competitive sports to give us some guidance as to how we will structure our competitions starting in January.
-
What do we do if restrictions are not lifted in January? Two great suggestions were made for alternate types of meets if restrictions are not lifted or are made stricter.
-
Virtual meets, using one live judge and several judges on a live video stream in our own gym. Judges are able to confer about routines.
-
Gym “pod” meets, where each session is limited to one team (all levels).
-
How do we handle refunds for meets that are forced to cancel? This is different for everyone based on the specifics of each meet (in-house, outside facility, etc). The recommendation is that each invitational make their refund policies clear on their invitation. This can be on a sliding time scale based on how close to the event date the cancellation is made. The phrase “Refunds will be considered once meet expenses are covered.” is recommended. We don’t want anyone forced to lose money over competitions.
-
Smaller meets that we have discussed will be held as single-level meets to maximize the opportunities for the athletes to compete while maintaining COVID safety.
-
I would like each gym who is willing and able to host a level meet to please send me the date or dates they are willing to hold a meet, their proposed entry fee, and what level or levels they are willing to host so we can start to get a schedule together.
-
If you have not yet given me your estimated level numbers, please do so to help in the planning of these level meets.
-
We discussed a WPAGL championship. Gymsport will host.
-
It was agreed that to share the burden, each gym should send volunteers to work together to set up and tear down.
-
Not all gyms may participate, as they do not want to extend the season beyond States. Please let us know if you will participate in this post-season meet so we can get a feel for how many teams to expect.
-
We would like to hold the inaugural competition this year to get it off the ground and continue the growth of the WPAGL community.
-
A virtual collegiate showcase was held by Xcel with recruiters viewing over Facebook Live. Lindsey is happy to share how she set this up if anyone would like information.
-
The WPAGL website (wpagl.com) is up and running. We will be adding a collegiate hopefuls page. If there is anything else that might be useful to see on that website, please let me know.
